Kunchanada :

The Kunchanada Media Competition, held annually and organized by the Maliyadeva Media Unit, is one of the biggest school media competitions in Sri Lanka. This prestigious event first started in the year 2000, establishing itself as one of the leading competitions in the country’s school media landscape. Notably, Maliyadeva Media Unit organized the first online media competition, Kunchanada 20, showcasing their commitment to innovation and adaptation to changing times. This competition has managed to draw participation from schools nationwide, providing a platform for students to enhance and showcase their media skills.

The Maliyadeva Media Unit collaborates with several esteemed organizations, including the Department of Government Information, the Ministry of Mass Media, Japura Voice, and school media club, to ensure the competition’s success and to provide students with the best possible resources and opportunities. Kunchanada 23, organized by the Maliyadeva Media Unit, was a grand event held with the participation of over 100 schools from across Sri Lanka, bringing together more than 2000 students. This competition featured a wide array of events, including announcing, dubbing, news editing, sports commentary, photography, cartoon drawing, and technical skills. These events were conducted in three languages: Sinhala, English, and Tamil, and were categorized into three levels: junior, intermediate, and senior. Kunchanada 23 not only showcased the immense talent of students nationwide but also promoted linguistic and cultural diversity through its inclusive format.

Dakma :

Dakma Media Day, organized by the Maliyadeva Media Unit, is a vibrant celebration dedicated to recognizing the talents and achievements of young media enthusiasts. As one of the leading and best media days in Sri Lankan school media, this event serves as the grand prize-giving ceremony for the Kunchanda Interschool Media Competition, an esteemed contest that brings together students from various schools to showcase their skills in Announcing, News Editing, Dubbing, and other media arts.

The ceremony honors the creativity, hard work, and dedication of participants, awarding those who have excelled in different categories. It provides a platform for budding media professionals to gain recognition and encourages the exchange of innovative ideas and techniques among peers. Dakma Media Day not only celebrates the accomplishments of these talented individuals but also promotes collaboration within the media community

In 2024, Maliyadeva Media Unit sucessufully concluded Dakma’24 The Annual Media Day of Maliyadeva College and the awarding ceremony of Kunchanada’23 All island Inter-school Media Competition.
